Work in Calligraphy

After finishing university, Diana trained with various eminent calligraphers and worked for 10 years on freelance on projects doing house portraits, family trees and decorative historic maps. This led to a commission from Peter Dominic to illustrate a wine guide with 37 decorative maps of wine growing areas of the world.

A large scale calligraphy commission from the West Midlands Arts led to the production of large interpretive panels for the music of Stockhausens Sternklang which was performed in Birmingham.

Diana has written a book entitled, Advanced Calligraphy Techniques, published in 1989 by Quarto publishing.

Work in Stone Carving

Stone carving was something Diana had always wanted to do. In 1984, after the death of her second child by cot death, she began carving. Matthew, her baby son's headstone, was her first carving.

"I could passionately mark the exact spot in the ground where my son lay."

For 20 years, Diana designed elegant, sensitive, well designed, hand carved stones to commemorate loved ones. Many of these carvings were for childrens stones.

Diana's Work in Ministry

Diana’s work with bereaved people led her to seek training and ordination as an Anglican priest.  She supported herself and her five children through the training by working as a letter carver and sculptor.

"I was the least likely person in the world to become a priest, although I had always felt very close to God in my work.  I had not been a regular church goer and my family were very unimpressed by my vocation to this.  However, I met a priest who stood by me through thick and thin and helped me so that I could offer myself for ordination."

She has been an ordained priest since 2005.

Diana's Current Work

Alongside her ministry as a parish priest, Diana has returned to creative work in calligraphy. Her latest projects explore faith in ways that speak to the current secular word. The mandalas, or spiritual journeys, explore the environment as a God given, precious, sacred resource.

About St. Davids

St Davids itself is the home of the famous cathedral. It is a historic destination for pilgrimage. Set in the beautiful, rugged landscape of a National Park it offers a wonderful location where the land meets the sea in the far West of Britain.

Diana refers to it as a “thin” place, infused with light and glory, whilst bearing the brunt of wild winter gales.

"I think of it as a place where heaven comes to earth and earth is drawn up to heaven."

It is a source of inspiration and peace for all who seek a divine dimension to their hectic, secular, modern lives. All are encouraged to  come and visit, either to view Diana's art work or to book a place on a retreat or a quiet day.
